MODS TO MY RANGER

im000376.jpg

There is only so much you can do on a limited buget. Add that to a 2.3 FORD RANGER and things become far and few between. Here is what I've done so far.

The first thing I did was to get a K&N filter. Gains are small but everything helps. I removed the air muffler and installed a piece of stove pipe in its place. Pretty no, functional yes. I have also installed a cold air pick up. Not that hard to do and worth the effort in my opinion.

RAM AIR

Turn the air filter housing so that it points downward. You can connect it to the front body mount by removing the bracket that held it to the inner fender and turning it around and flipping it over. Be sure to put the one screw back in.

Air filter housing

I used a two to three inch fernco to connect the air filter box to the dryer vent hose.

rust never sleeps

Run the hose to a scoop of your choosing. I used an air duct vent. I ran the hose to a three to four inch plastic adapter and connected them with a three to three inch fernco. I screwed the plastic adapter to the vent and fastened the vent in my bumper. I would recomend painting it flat black so that it isn't as noticable. I will do mine as soon as I have time to tear it all apart again.

Paint it flat black, way to noticable if not.

Valuable tip

Tape up the dryer vent hose with duct tape. If you don't it'll split. Don't tape it untill it's installed. You won't be able to move it once you do.

Speed costs money

There is stuff out there for the 2.3. Racer Walsh and Ford motorsports has stuff. You can also swap in a 2.3 turbo or go all out for a 5.0 from a Mustang. A rear end gear change is a good idea. By making the gears steeper(larger number) you increase the leverage the engine has on the tires. You loose top end speed but there is a lot there RPM wise.
